Hello and thank you for visiting my site.
Introducing: 25 Years of Cabinet Making and Furniture Design Expertise
Good day. My name is Sandijs, and I am a professional cabinet maker and furniture designer with over 25 years of hands-on experience in the industry. This blog is dedicated to sharing practical insights from my career, from initial apprenticeships to advanced design and project delivery. Whether you are a woodworking enthusiast, aspiring cabinet maker, or seasoned furniture professional, I invite you to explore proven workflows, design techniques, and industry best practices.
My Journey in Cabinet Making and Furniture Design
I began my career as an apprentice, performing foundational tasks such as lifting planks and organizing hardware. Over time, I advanced to crafting complete furniture pieces, managing deliveries, assisting fellow makers, and producing complex custom items including kitchens, wardrobes, beds, and freestanding units. For the past 10–15 years, I have focused primarily on the design phase, where creativity meets technical precision.
This progression has equipped me with deep knowledge of every stage of furniture production—from concept to completion. Today, at 45, I am committed to passing on this accumulated expertise to the next generation of makers while also providing value to experienced professionals seeking fresh perspectives.
What This Furniture Design Blog Offers
The primary goal of this blog is to deliver authentic, experience-based content that benefits the woodworking and cabinet-making community. Key objectives include:
- Sharing practical knowledge: Detailed accounts of my design processes, modeling techniques, live project workflows, information gathering, client communication, drafting, project management, site surveys, and final delivery.
- Highlighting tips, tricks, and lessons learned: Insights drawn from real-world challenges, mistakes, and successful outcomes, enhanced through collaboration with other makers and trades.
- Exploring modern tools and technologies: In-depth reviews and applications of software used in furniture design and cabinet making.
I have worked extensively with industry-standard programs such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Cabinet Vision. My current primary tool is Topsolid'Wood, though I continue to explore advanced solutions including Rhino with Grasshopper for parametric modeling, and Archicad. A central focus of this blog is parametric design and automation—strategies that eliminate repetitive tasks and streamline efficient, high-quality outcomes.
Additional topics will cover new manufacturing methods, drafting best practices, and organizational techniques that improve project results across the cabinet-making and furniture design sectors.
What to Expect: Upcoming Content and Resources
This blog is actively evolving. Future posts will feature:
- Step-by-step tutorials on furniture modeling and design workflows.
- Live project breakdowns with real photos, data, and client deliverables.
- Downloadable resources, including PDF guides, DXF files, and parametric components for immediate use in your own projects.
A small selection of these resources will soon be available in the blog shop. For now, I am sharing ongoing live projects directly through the posts.
